Today I’ll be reviewing the recently sent Vitamin Box. This box contained 7 full-sized products. All product descriptions below come from the info card included (corrected for grammar and spelling because, well, I can’t restrain myself). This box is currently sold out, but Memebox occasionally restocks, or more often, releases another version of bestselling boxes.
So Memebox aficionados have joked that this should have been called the Pure Smile box, since nearly everything is that brand. The packaging of Pure Smile makes me think it’s drugstore-level, but Korean product packaging can be misleading. Either way, I really like their products, so I’m pretty happy with this box.
Memebox is a Korean Beauty mystery box. They generally release new boxes each week; some are themed and others miscellaneous products. All items are Korean, usually lesser-known brands. Boxes range in price (starting usually at $23 USD) and standard shipping (which takes a couple of weeks) is $6.99 USD per box ordered (so if you order two boxes, it’s $13.98 for shipping). Boxes are usually pre-ordered to be shipped at a later date, although they do have some ready to ship now.
Memebox products come packaged in a sturdy pink cardboard box with crumpled tissue paper for padding. The box then comes in either a pink bubblewrap mailer or a shipping box if multiple boxes are shipping at once. The products are usually arranged neatly and are often sealed by the manufacturer.
Elizavecca Real White Vita-Sauce 30 (50ml)
“With pure vitamin C comprising over 30% of the facial ampoule, this is a highly concentrated vitamin ampoule which provides instant moisture, whitening care, wrinkle-care, and skin protection all in one!”
Vita-Sauce. SAUCE. AHAHHHAHAA.
Ok, that’s out of my system. So ampoules are concentrated serums that are usually expensive, so I’m glad to have gotten one in this box. A note about the whitening care: it may not be what you think. The Asian standard of beauty involves pale, flawless skin; the wealthy and well-born spent their days inside while the poor toiled in the fields, getting browned by the sun. So while a sun-kissed face is seen as a healthy and attractive look in the west, almost all Asian skin care products include ingredients to even out skin tone, marketed as “whitening” products. They don’t bleach your skin as much as reduce pigmented and red spots, just like those Clinque ads with the spotted eggshells. I haven’t tried the Vita-Sauce yet, but as I use up other products, I’ll rotate this one in. Sauce. LOL.
Amini Vitamin Shower Body Soap Bar (120g)
“This body soap bar works to rejuvenate the skin with its gentle and replenishing formula consisting of vitamin-rich rosehip, lavender, and peppermint oils.”
I don’t usually use bar soap, so I’ve tossed this one on the “to be used eventually” pile. It smells nice, though.
Pure Smile Gelee Labo Marmalade (12g)
“A facial pack with jam-like texture made from nutrition-rich fruits and works to moisturize and soften skin. The orange extracts, hyaluronic acid, centella asiatica, and licorice root extracts treat roughened skin texture and improve elasticity.”
Pure Smile Hand Gel Citrus Crash (30mL)
“Keep your hands germ free…easy to carry around and its lovely citrus scent will refresh your body and soul.”
Pure Smile, please put me on your product naming team; I could have so much fun! I love masks, so I’m trying this one after a morning on the beach to revitalize and moisturize my face. Some people complained about the hand gel, but I’m thrilled to get it. School will be starting in two very short weeks, and that means ten months of illness starts soon. Maybe this product will help. I wonder if I can get a vat of it.
Pure Smile Lip Treatment (10g)
“Made from various fruits rich in vitamin E, snail mucus extracts, hyaluronic acid, shea butter, and macadamia seed oil, this lip treatment delivers instant hydration and nourishment.”
So snail mucin is my holy grail ingredient. It improves elasticity and hydrates skin, providing a wealth of anti-aging benefits. And you may think that’s weird to put on your lips, but let me tell you, this lip balm is MAGIC. I used it once overnight and got soft, smooth, hydrated lips out of the chapped mess I went to bed with. This particular flavor is mixed fruits — I don’t know if they make others, but I need to buy more of this stuff for the winter. Forget EOS, Burt’s Bees, Chapstick, even Vaseline. Pure Smile snail snot on my lips forevermore!
Evas Vitamin Sun Cream SPF38 PA++ (50mL)
“Made from various fruits rich in vitamin E, snail mucus extracts, hyaluronic acid, shea butter, and macadamia seed oil, this lip treatment delivers instant hydration and nourishment.”
I’ve finally accepted that I need to wear sunscreen every day, even though I only see the sun for a second during half the year. I have a growing collection of cosmetics with SPF in them, but I guess I can’t go wrong with a layer of straight out sunscreen under my makeup — and I need to start putting it on my hands! Otherwise, I’ll be making manicures out of my liver spots in a few years.
Pure Smile Juicy Point Pads Lemon & Orange (10g)
“Enriched with vitamin E, hyaluronic acid, and collagen components, these pads are ideal for quick skin emergencies both on your face and on your body. These point masks will instantly soothe and moisturize irritated skin… and plus they come in a super adorable design!”
These spot patches are saturated with serum to calm and heal blemishes. I wore one the other day while I was folding laundry. It lost adhesion as the patch dried out, but it did seem to soothe the giant pimple I applied it over. These little patches aren’t magic, but they’ll calm your skin down enough for you to work some concealer magic.
Overall, I really like this box and will be using all these products. The vitamin gimmick may or may not be useful, but these products have great ingredients and smell like citrus, which makes me happy. 🙂
