Memebox Review – Superbox #56: Yogurt Cosmetics

I bought the yogurt box mostly because I loved the milk box so much that I’ll probably buy anything dairy related for skincare. Yogurt is especially good for calming skin, so it’s perfect as I go into the winter season and suffer from the winter itchies. I like all the products in this box, and I’m really glad I purchased it!

Memebox is a Korean Beauty mystery box. They generally release new boxes each week; some are themed and others miscellaneous products. All items are Korean, usually lesser-known brands. Boxes range in price (starting usually at $23 USD) and standard shipping (which takes a couple of weeks) is $6.99 USD per box ordered (so if you order two boxes, it’s $13.98 for shipping). Boxes are usually pre-ordered to be shipped at a later date, although they do have some ready to ship now.

Memebox products come packaged in a sturdy pink cardboard box with crumpled tissue paper for padding. The box then comes in either a pink bubblewrap mailer or a shipping box if multiple boxes are shipping at once. The products are usually arranged neatly and are often sealed by the manufacturer.

Pure Smile Yogurt Mask Mixed Fruits (x2)
“Made from a blend of yogurt and mixed fruits — banana, kiwi, and pinapple extracts — it delivers rich moisture and nourishment deep down into the skin and helps maintain health skin condition by preventing dehydration.”

Surprise! More Pure Smile! I know this brand is bargain dollar store and Memebox must get it for free or for cents on the dollar, but I actually really like Pure Smile products. The snail lip treatment and snail hair treatment are both amazing, and I’ve liked all their sheet masks. These yogurt masks smell like tropical fruit and make my skin feel really hydrated. The pineapple enzymes gently exfoliate, while the yogurt calms and soothes skin. My dog Gabranth tried to eat the mask once I took it off — when I snatched it away from him he contented himself with licking my face. 🙂

Happy Bath Facial Yogurt Cleansing Foam (120mL)
“Enriched with yogurt and various herbal essences, it comes in four types, each catered to different skin concerns. The Gentle type contains grain powders and is extremely soft on skin.”

This was one option out of four possible (the others were Moist, Silky, and Firm). All the reviews I’ve seen so far have gotten Gentle, so I don’t know how the others are. I love foaming cleansers: they work really well with my Clarisonic, and they make my skin feel clean without dryness. This one, with its rice bran and macadamia oil, promises to be, yes, gentle and softly cleansing. It’ll be good for days when I don’t wear makeup and don’t need a strong cleanser, or for the morning when I just want to wash the sleep drool off my face. My drool and my dog’s. Yum.

ettang Modeling Take-Out Cup Pack Yogurt (17g)
“A modeling pack refers to a rubber-like pack widely used in aesthetic clinics for sootghing, moisturizing, and firming up the skin. This comes in a cute little cup with just the right amount for a single use so all you need to do is pour in some water to mix it up with.”

This mask pack is single-use, which is the one thing I don’t like about this box. I feel like a lot of single-use products lowers the overall value of the box, but that doesn’t stop me from enjoying this mask. It mixes with water to form a putty-like, viscous spread that makes me feel like I’m getting an expensive spa treatment. After about 20 minutes, it peels off to reveal soft and smooth skin. I love peel-off masks, so this one gave me some bonus fun.

Purederm Skin Softening Yogurt Mask Strawberry (150mL)
“Packed with strawberry and yogurt extracts, this wash-off, cream-type pack delivers rich nutrition and deep hydration to dry, coarse, and tired skin and works to cleanse away all excess dead skin cells and impurities piled up in the pores for a refreshing and softening effect.”

My only beef with this product is the packaging. Maybe I’ve just grown used to the cute or high-end look of most Korean product packaging, but this looks like a VO5 shampoo bottle. So boring. Meh. Other than that, it smells great and sinks into skin, leaving my face super-hydrated. I think I’m going to use it everywhere I get dry, rough skin this winter. It says to wash off, but I chose to apply a thin layer and just leave it on all evening.

Rappol Calming Cream (150g)
“The founders of Rappol started their brand because they hoped to make a super gentle and effective product for their own baby who was suffering from highly allergic, sensitive skin. Enriched with lactic acids and various other moisturizers, this cream works to strengthen the skin’s level of immunity and self-regenerating ability while offering a concentrated care and treatment of allergy-prone skin.”

This product must have been included for the lactic acid ingredient, which is something found in milk and other dairy products. I get really itchy allergy skin on my arms, hands, and feet, complete with hives. I’m allergic to basically everything in my environment, including Gabranth, so in the winter I suffer from dry skin plus itches, and I’m a total mess. I’ve been using this product for a couple of days, and while it’s certainly moisturizing and feels nice on dry skin, it doesn’t do much for the bumps that form on my arms and hands. It’s also got a rather greasy feel that doesn’t go away quickly. I’ll continue using this until it’s gone, but then go back to a thicker moisturizer and my regular itch cream.

Holika Holika I want Chu Lip Balm Strawberry Smoothie (x2)
“This set comes in two separate products — one strawberry, one yogurt — which, when they come in contact, make a chemical reaction with each other and transform into a strawberry smoothie-like scent.”

h2lipbalm

This little gimmicky product is supposed to enhance your kisses: you put on one, your lover puts on the other, and when you smooch you taste strawberry smoothie. Cute. The only one giving me kisses these days is Gabs, and while he’ll happily eat the lip balm, I don’t think it’s all that good for him. So I’ll just use them separately.

Overall, I think this was a strong box. I like and will use all these products, and it’s a timely box for my cold weather skin concerns. All I need is some cold weather!

The Yogurt box is sold out, but I’m sure Memebox will release a similar box soon.
