Gradient: Stormy Nails

Here in New England, the saying goes that if you don’t like the weather, wait five minutes. I’ve waited five days for some sunshine, and there appears to be none in sight. I had some outside work to do that I put off because it looked like rain this morning; sure enough, it’s pouring down now like a monsoon. So I thought it would be a good day to do a stormy color design on my nails.

These are the color of the sky today. And yesterday, And presumably tomorrow.

I started with a single coat of Zoya’s gorgeous Caitlin, a smoky purple-grey that looks beautiful on its own (as Sobsessed shows in her post here). Then I sponged on a gradient using China Glaze Hook and Line and Pelican Gray.

I added a coat of China Glaze Fairy Dust to create a sort of sparkling raindrop effect and help disguise the gradient lines. Fairy Dust is such a versatile, beautiful top coat; it sparkles even in this dreary weather. The pictures don’t capture all the glitter colors it flashes, unfortunately. I’d take some sunshine pics, but…I would need some sunshine for that!

Pelican Gray is at the tip, Hook and Line at the cuticle.

So what do you think? Will the sun ever shine, or should I wear stormy colors for the rest of the week?

  1. This looks really great! I love Fairy Dust over top – it’s the icing on the cake. I was going to ask which grays you have with sparkles in them, because I’d need to buy them ASAP.
