Memebox is a Korean Beauty mystery box. They generally release new boxes each week; some are themed and others miscellaneous products. All items are Korean, usually lesser-known brands. Boxes range in price (starting usually at $23 USD) and standard shipping (which takes a couple of weeks) is $6.99 USD per box ordered (so if you order two boxes, it’s $13.98 for shipping). Boxes are usually pre-ordered to be shipped at a later date, which is kind of fun if you order a ton in, say, the last two weeks of school while you’re bored and then you forget everything you ordered and are pleasantly surprised by beauty products on your doorstep.
I’ve gotten maybe 15 or so boxes so far, with at least 10 more on the way (yeah, I know, it’s an addiction). Today I’ll be reviewing the recently sent Cooling Box. This box contained 5 full-sized products. All product descriptions below come from the info card included (corrected for grammar and spelling because, well, I can’t restrain myself).
Memebox products come packaged in a sturdy pink cardboard box with crumpled tissue paper for padding. The box then comes in either a pink bubblewrap mailer or a shipping box if multiple boxes are shipping at once. The products are usually arranged so neatly it’s like a Tetris board, and only once did I have a problem with a leaky product (a foil mask package punctured, and Memebox quickly resolved the issue).
The Skin House Aloe Water Mist (80ml)
“A finely spraying facial mist, the Skin House’s popular Aloe Water Mist is packed with aloe moisture for delivering instant replenishment to dry or irritated skin. A gentle hydrating mist is definitely a beauty essential for every girl in the summer times!”
So it’s usually 40000000 degrees in my classroom when school starts, and I sweat buckets just sitting still. I’m really excited to use this soothing mist throughout the day to refresh my skin and makeup. A few light spritzes on my forehead and the back of my neck might get me through those tough classes.
Organia White Organia Aloe Vera Soothing Gel (300g)
“This moisture-rich Aloe Vera Soothing Gel effectively soothes and deeply hydrates dry or irritated skin, especially after long hours under the sun. The various herbal extracts also included work to rejuvenate and refresh both your body and facial skin.”
So far this summer I’ve successfully avoided sunburn, but aloe gel is a wonderful cooling balm on a hot day and moisturizes like mad. I’ll be using this on my dry, itchy feet and legs.
Secret Key Intense Ice Sleeping Pack (100g)
“A sleeping pack for providing your skin with an immediate surge of moisture overnight! The menthol component and the super moist PH complex worth to deliver a deeply moisturizing, soothing, and cooling effect when you wake up the next morning. With continuous use, it helps brighten up your complexion and maintain your skin in healthy balance.”
So sleeping packs are one of my favorite Asian skin care items. Applied at night, they seal moisture into your skin while you sleep, taking advantage of human biology: skin cells do most of their renewing between 10pm and 2am. I’ve enjoyed the Secret Key items I’ve gotten in Memeboxes, and this pack feels wonderfully soothing on my skin as I try and sleep on a hot summer night. I wake up with fresh, soft, moisture-rich skin that isn’t at all oily. Sleeping packs absorb pretty quickly into the skin, so no residue gets on the pillow, even if you’re a face-sleeper like I am.
NSM Exciting Snow Cooling Tint (5g)
“This unique cooling tint from NSM is very special in that it glides smoothly and vividly onto your lips and it literally holds the colorful radiance in place with a cooled, refreshing feeling that lasts for up to 20 minutes after tint application. The color won’t fade even under water and will last all day long with a nice, refreshing peppermint scent which also works to cover up any bad breath!”
LOL, this description. I wish they’d hire me to write these. The color I got was shockingly pink, but it makes a great stain base for a softer lipstick or gloss applied over top (or it’s great on it’s own, if you like hot pink). I applied it with a lip brush for precision, although the doe foot applicator works fine, and it set in a hot minute. It wore all day, even through coffee and a doughnut, with no transfer, although it faded a little. Like all stains, it’s a little drying, but a layer of balm on top fixed that, and it wasn’t nearly as drying as OCC lip tars. I could definitely feel the cooling peppermint effect on my lips when I applied it, although I can’t swear the tingle lasted 30 minutes.
awesome Aqua Whip Hug Foam Cleanser (120ml)
“This Foam Cleanser is made from the extremely pure and rich minerals found in Canadian glaciers. The fine, soft whipped cream-like bubbles created from the cleanser are very gentle and effective in penetrating deep into your pores.”
I haven’t tried this yet, since I have a foaming cleanser already on deck, but I hope it’s as AWESOME as its brand name. 🙂
Overall, I’m really pleased with this box. I won’t calculate value, since Memebox inflates the prices of individual products versus what they retail for on various websites, but it was definitely worth more than $23.
