Memebox Review – Special #24: Brightening Skincare

As I’ve mentioned before, Asian standards of beauty primarily involve clear, pale, blemish-free skin. Historically, that was a sign of wealth and status, so almost all Korean skin care products contain ingredients to “whiten” skin. They’re not meant to bleach away pigment as much as they brighten and even tone.

Brightening Box

Memebox is a Korean Beauty mystery box. They generally release new boxes each week; some are themed and others miscellaneous products. All items are Korean, usually lesser-known brands. Boxes range in price (starting usually at $23 USD) and standard shipping (which takes a couple of weeks) is $6.99 USD per box ordered (so if you order two boxes, it’s $13.98 for shipping). Boxes are usually pre-ordered to be shipped at a later date, although they do have some ready to ship now.

Memebox products come packaged in a sturdy pink cardboard box with crumpled tissue paper for padding. The box then comes in either a pink bubblewrap mailer or a shipping box if multiple boxes are shipping at once. The products are usually arranged neatly and are often sealed by the manufacturer.

ISPREN Magic Eye Solution Wise Patch
“The hydro-gel type eye patch works to soothe and lock in all the moisture and nutrition onto your eye contours, hydrating and brightening up the ‘panda-eyes’ for a much more healthy looking and even toned complexion.”

eye patch

I really wish Memebox would stop considering one patch as full size, since it can take a few applications of a product to really see any difference. I do love hydro-gels, though, because they feel cooler and more nourishing on my skin than paper. Eye patches are a great little unwinding ritual after a sweltering day in my classroom.

Finco Solution Spot (25mL)
“Specifically targets red, uneven spots or emergency breakouts on your skin. It works to soothe and brighten up uneven, reddish spots and acne scares for clearer, smoother skin texture. It can also be applied on top of makeup because its texture is translucent and gel-like.”

spot treatment

I haven’t tried this yet because my skin is going through a good week, but I do have some recurring blemishes on the side of my face I sleep on, so I’m ready to test this product soon. I like that it can be applied for daytime, and Korean products tend to be hydrating rather than drying, so that’s good.

CLEOSIS All in One Water Shining Finisher (45mL)
“Combining a skin toner, essence, moisturizing cream, and primer in one smart item, this finisher is used as the last step of the skincare routine to hydrate, firm up, brighten, treat fine wrinkles, and smooth out uneven skin texture, preparing the skin with an extra glow before makeup application. It’s enriched with galactomyces ferments, rice bran ferments, pumpkin ferments and other skin beneficial natural ingredients for nourishing the skin.”

finishing serum

Ages ago, Hope in a Blog predicted that finishing creams would be the next craze. I’ve been using Missha’s Geumsul Vitalizing Finisher (on sale now!) and really liking how it gives my face a little extra oomph before I apply makeup. When that runs out, I’ll try this product. I like that the CLEOSIS finisher contains fermented ingredients for extra anti-aging benefits, and since it’s called “water,” it should be a very light application.

Yufit Eon Wheat-Germ 97 Essence (50mL)
“A whitening, anti-wrinkle, brightening, and moisturizing facial essence all-in-one, this product contains various naturally derived ingredients which all work to deliver abundant nutrition deep down into your skin for an overall brighter and healthier complexion.”

essence

Well, this makes some big promises. Essences and serums are the heart of the Korean skincare routine, so I can never have too many of these.

Dermahouse Perfect Whitening Moisture Mask (120mL)
“Deeply nourish and brighten up your dulled-out skin tone while having your beauty sleep. The niacinamide component of the pack helps treat red, coarse, and uneven skin tone for a clearer, brighter complexion the next morning.”

sleeping pack

Sleeping packs are kind of the best thing ever. I use a different one each night and I’m adding this into the rotation. I love that I can put them on, watch ten minutes of TV in bed, then roll over on my face and go to sleep. In the morning, my skin is hydrated and smooth, even in the dry winter.

Redness and uneven tone are probably my biggest skin care problem (and even so, I have only mild issues), so I’m glad to have gotten this box. It’s sold out, but look for either it or the Snow White box to be restocked!
