Memebox Review – Superbox #44: No Makeup Makeup

It’s a day that ends in “y,” so time for another Memebox review! I really only rock a NMM look on weekends because I work in a dull environment and I like to liven it up with colorful eyes or lips. But I do like keeping my face minimal, especially since the temperature in my room is so variable. So I jumped on this box, hoping for products that would be light and neutral.

Memebox is a Korean Beauty mystery box. They generally release new boxes each week; some are themed and others miscellaneous products. All items are Korean, usually lesser-known brands. Boxes range in price (starting usually at $23 USD) and standard shipping (which takes a couple of weeks) is $6.99 USD per box ordered (so if you order two boxes, it’s $13.98 for shipping). Boxes are usually pre-ordered to be shipped at a later date, although they do have some ready to ship now.

Memebox products come packaged in a sturdy pink cardboard box with crumpled tissue paper for padding. The box then comes in either a pink bubblewrap mailer or a shipping box if multiple boxes are shipping at once. The products are usually arranged neatly and are often sealed by the manufacturer.

Macqueen New York Mineral CC Cushion Cover SPF50++PA+++
“This popular Mineral CC Cushion is widely acknowledged for its high level of UV protection and moisture, effective and long-lasting coverage, and its non-sticky, silky after touch previously unfounded in any other CC or air cushions. It’ll bring out the most natural and healthy looking glow on your face, and the high concentrates of bamboo water deliver an instant soothing and cooling effect.”

I left this sealed and unswatched because I’m hoping to trade it. I really like the idea of the product, but I got the darker shade, and I know without testing that it’s too yellow for my skin. I love air cushions for BB or CC cream, because I manage to apply just the right amount with them, and the sponge applicator puff blends in the product really well. I have the Missha air cushion that can be used with any formula, and I just keep refilling it with whatever I have on hand. Air cushion compacts are relatively chunky to carry around in your purse, but since BB cream is meant to be reapplied throughout the day as needed, it’s a great way to port it around. This MacQueen compact has a good-sized mirror and seems pretty sturdy, so it would hold up well to daily use.

If you purchased this and got the Clear Light Beige and want the Oriental Pure Beige, comment and we’ll set up a trade!

Drww. Power Lift Strong Cream (50g)
“Containing Omega 3.6.9, hyaluronic acid, and five different kinds of flower seed extracts, it works to treat skin darkening and wrinkles. The best part of this cream is as a makeup booster. It can also be applied in small amounts along the T-zone for highlighting your features before or after makeup. Mix it in with a makeup base or foundation and apply for a naturally glowing and radiant complexion.”

Omega 3 (from fish oil), 6 (from evening primrose), and 9 (from avocado oil) are all fatty acids that help moisturize and plump skin. Usually these fatty acids are ingested, and I’m not sure of the benefits of topical application versus swallowing a supplement pill. Either way, I love this product. It’s a smoothing cream with noticable shimmer that glides easily on my skin and gives it a dewy, youthful look. I think it might be comparable to the super-expensive Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream (reviewed here by Wayne Goss) in terms of brightening the skin and adding that radiance. I apply it after my Collagen Booster and before BB cream, and I can really see a difference in how smooth and healthy my skin looks. I’ve been sending selfies to a friend each morning, and she agrees my skin looks fab. 🙂

Milky Dress Silky Velvet Primer (30mL)
“It works to make your skin soft and silky before application of base makeup. Made from rhodiola rosea root extracts, damask rose extracts, and rosemary leaf extracts, this primer is gentle and adheres thinly and smoothly to the skin, filling in all the uneven texture and fine lines for a long-lasting, velvet-like skin condition.”

Rhodiola rosea is known as King’s Crown, is thought to have antidepressant effects when ingested, and is traditionally used in Chinese herbal medicine. I’m not sure what it’s supposed to do topically, but maybe it helps calm skin? I usually use primers like this in the winter, so I didn’t unseal the tube to test it yet.

DD’ell Gel Color Pot 08 Snowy White (5.5g)
“It works as a light, snowy-colored shadow and a highlighter all in one. Its texture is cushiony and creamy when applied, and the subtle pearls and sophisticated color formation brings out the best in your complexion.”

This isn’t a creamy product like I thought it would be. If you turn the pot upside down, the whole thing falls out in a lump. But when you push your finger in it, it feels spongy, like it’s an air cushion. I use my fingers for application and dab it along my cheekbones and above my brows for a shimmery highlight. It feels powdery, but applies like a cream, so I need to work it in to blend it. I think it’ll make a nice eye shadow base too.

ProYou Vita CC Lip Essence Red Rose (15mL)
“Enriched with vitamin E, shea butter, jojoba oil, macadamia oil, it works to deeply moisturize dry, chapped lips and protect them from further dehydration by delivering nutrition from within. What makes this lip product unique is that when applied, it’ll alter its color according to the individual’s lip color and PH level.”

I love this product! It goes on clear but quickly changes to a soft rose pink on my lips (or hand, as in the swatch). It’s a great ‘my lips but better’ product, since it hydrates and adds a nice shine without being goopy or slick. It penetrates into the lips instead of sitting on top like a gloss. The tube is crazy big, too, so it’ll be a long time before I run out.

Missha The Style Perfect Concealer Natural Beige (3g)
“It natural covers up skin imperfections and dark circles, and prevents skin tone from darkening throughout the day. The gentle formula soothes the skin yet at the same time strongly adheres to the skin for a long-lasting coverage.”

misshaconceal

I’ve grown to really like Missha’s cosmetics, so I was pleased to see this concealer. I’m currently using Skinfood’s Dark Circle Salmon undereye concealer (which you can see in action in the picture of me above), and it’s working really well. But in the winter, my skin has all sorts of red patches and blemishes from the dry air and pollution, so I’ll be happy to use this too.

This box was a winner! I like all the products, and except for getting the CC cream too dark for me, I’ll use or am already using everything.
