I do have some nail art for you guys, but I’ve been really sick for a couple of weeks, so I haven’t had too much energy for it. But I got my new SquareHue box yesterday, so I wanted to post swatches.

I was all set with a manicure for today’s theme, but when I was looking at the pictures, I hated it. So I’ll get back to that later this week and instead give you a look at this month’s ipsy bag! Ipsy is a beauty subscription box that I’ve reviewed before, and you can read their FAQ here.

A simple look using Chella Brow Pencil, Mica eyeshadow in Bronze, and Pixi Lash Booster Mascara
I love autumn. Well, except for that whole back-to-work thing. But I love the transition to cooler temperatures, apple picking, Halloween, and especially fall colors. The various fall polish collections are mostly out, except for some Halloween-specific ones, and the only one that was a must-buy for me was Zoya. I got all six Cashmeres (creme finish), three Satins (metallic finish), and four PixieDusts (textured matte finish). First up for swatching is the set of Satins.

I didn’t think I had so many greens, since it’s not a color I like on my nails. I love it in eye makeup and clothing, since I have hazel eyes, but on nails it never looks right to me somehow. But after organizing my collection, I realized I have enough to do a monochromatic color block. This took some time to do, but I really like how it turned out.
WHOOPS. Bondi went bust. I’ll have a post about that later, but my recommendation is to NOT get involved in any enterprise led by Bondi or Richard Annington.
THE FOLLOWING REVIEW WAS TRUE AT THE TIME:
I’m really excited to finally share a new subscription service: Bondi New York! Bondi offers 5-free polish in a variety of pretty cremes and metallics, with all of the net profits going to their foundation that supports charitable causes. Their subscription box is $19.99/month, with scaled discounts for 3-, 6-, and 12-month purchases. I purchased a 3-month sub, and the first one arrived yesterday.

Really quick: I entered a contest run by the lovely rubygloomel on WordPress. Go here and vote for your favorite design!

Textured nails are THE trend for 2013, and I was dying to use my new fall colors, so I pulled together this simple design for this week’s challenge. I know I just did dots, but I like how they look and I’m getting better at putting them in straight lines each time I do them.
I drove back home yesterday to find a note on my door saying my neighbor had taken in my packages (so nice of her! She didn’t know when I was coming home), so I spent the afternoon waiting breathlessly for her to get home from work. I had boxes from Skoshbox (review coming soon), Zoya, and SquareHue: I was in polish heaven for the night! So I have a lot of swatches for the next couple of weeks. 🙂

Sorry for this post being so late! I’m still visiting my mother, and while I did this mani on Sunday, I just haven’t gotten around to posting. Something about being on vacation makes me so lazy…

Becca and I made this a split theme because she loves tribal and I love stripes, but I decided to challenge myself and try a simple tribal design. I was hampered by being away from home so I didn’t have my full collection to choose from, but I packed polishes that I thought would go together and I really like the result!
ipsy is a beauty sample subscription box, similar in concept to Birchbox. Instead of having the full sized products available in their own store, ipsy works out discounts with the brands for the month that they’re featured. The samples ship out starting on the 10th (in a rolling release, so it’s not as dependable a date as Birchbox), and each themed month comes in a little makeup bag. Sometimes the samples are actually full sized, sometimes not, but they never seem to be the little foil packets that Birchbox is so fond of and that make me feel so ripped off.
This is my second month with ipsy, and I’m still on the fence. You can’t choose which five of the eight possible products you’ll get, and while you take a style quiz, I don’t think anyone at ipsy actually uses it to design the product selection. Everyone usually gets two featured products, then the others are an either/or between two types of the same product. You can see what you’re getting a few days in advance by clicking on your “glam room,” although it won’t tell you what shades you’ll get if there are multiple color options.
