My first video game console was an Atari, and my cousins used to play the Smurfs game on it all the time. My one cousin lived with us for a few years when I was in grade school, and after we were supposed to be in bed, he would sneak into my room to play Ninja Gaiden on my Nintendo. My ex-boyfriend put Final Fantasy VII on my computer when he was rebuilding it before I went to college, and I got hooked. Another ex-boyfriend let me essentially crash in his dorm so I could play FFVIII on his PlayStation. Becca and I met through our love of Final Fantasy XII. And in tutoring a student on Brave New World this week, I explained that the Cyprus Experiment was an example of “we do what we must because we can” (the kid totally appreciated the reference).
I’m not a huge gamer, but I love the ones I’ve played. One of my favorites is Nintendo’s flagship RPG, The Legend of Zelda.
Only after I polished my nails did I decide I really wanted to do a Portal design, but I just got a-England’s gorgeous Dragon polish (The Mythicals Collection, available here), and I really wanted to use it. I planned to use transfer paper to affix the sigil of the Royal House of Hyrule to my nail, but I couldn’t find the right kind of paper, so I decided to go with a simple triforce design. I mixed up Julep’s Charlie, which I’d gotten in a mystery box somewhere along the line, with a couple of drops of China Glaze’s Angel Wings to get a sparkly yellow, then used Scotch tape and striping tape to do the triangles. They’re a bit off-center, but that’s okay.
a-England is an indie brand known for their great formula and gorgeous holographic polishes. The holo is visible in indirect light, but it really comes alive in the sunlight. Pictures just don’t replicate how amazing this sparkle is when the sun hits it. Fortunately, I had a few hours to sit outside and admire it before the sky got overcast.
My favorite Zelda game is Ocarina of Time, followed by the original game. Since I don’t have a Wii (I know, I suck), I haven’t played anything after Wind Waker, but I like the grown-up graphics of Ocarina and Twilight Princess better than the cartoon style of some of the other games. Someday, when I stop spending all my spare funds on polish, I’ll buy a Wii solely to play all the Zelda games I’m missing.
Becca should be caught up soon; mosey on over to Fishay Fishay to check out her awesome video game nails!
Next week: Under the Sea!
