Really quick: I entered a contest run by the lovely rubygloomel on WordPress. Go here and vote for your favorite design!
Textured nails are THE trend for 2013, and I was dying to use my new fall colors, so I pulled together this simple design for this week’s challenge. I know I just did dots, but I like how they look and I’m getting better at putting them in straight lines each time I do them.

Sorry for this post being so late! I’m still visiting my mother, and while I did this mani on Sunday, I just haven’t gotten around to posting. Something about being on vacation makes me so lazy…

Becca and I made this a split theme because she loves tribal and I love stripes, but I decided to challenge myself and try a simple tribal design. I was hampered by being away from home so I didn’t have my full collection to choose from, but I packed polishes that I thought would go together and I really like the result!

Between an intense grad class and the heat wave, I just haven’t had the energy to update recently. I’m sorry! I’ll probably be slow over the next couple of weeks while I visit my mother in Philadelphia, but I’ll at least try to get my weekly challenge posts out on time.

I tried to come up with some patriotic designs for the 4th of July, but I just wasn’t getting anywhere. And then I thought, well, why do I need to do a flag design? I wanted to think of something distinctly American. What’s more American than Levi’s blue jeans?

Such an appropriate theme for this week! And while that wasn’t our thought when we planned this challenge (rainbow is one of the themes from the 31-day challenged Becca and I used as a template), this little bit of serendipity makes me smile. Hooray for another step for equality! If only the Voter Protection Act decision had been equally on target. *sigh*
Okay, back to nails.
Enough politics, show me the rainbow!
I still have a few more days of school, but summer is officially here in New England; it’s 60% humidity right now. Someone once joked that New England has four seasons: nearly winter, winter, still winter, and construction. So true.

I originally planned some sort of epic nail art with fish and a little crab and everything, but the truth is, I’m bad at art. 🙂

My first video game console was an Atari, and my cousins used to play the Smurfs game on it all the time. My one cousin lived with us for a few years when I was in grade school, and after we were supposed to be in bed, he would sneak into my room to play Ninja Gaiden on my Nintendo. My ex-boyfriend put Final Fantasy VII on my computer when he was rebuilding it before I went to college, and I got hooked. Another ex-boyfriend let me essentially crash in his dorm so I could play FFVIII on his PlayStation. Becca and I met through our love of Final Fantasy XII. And in tutoring a student on Brave New World this week, I explained that the Cyprus Experiment was an example of “we do what we must because we can” (the kid totally appreciated the reference).
I’m not a huge gamer, but I love the ones I’ve played. One of my favorites is Nintendo’s flagship RPG, The Legend of Zelda.

Episode 9 of each Game of Thrones season is the most powerful one, and this week was no exception. As book readers, Becca and I knew what was coming, so we coordinated our manicures to match.
